Navigating Life, Movement, and Diabetes With The FreeStyle Libre 2 System

Living life as a full-time mother, surf instructor, dance teacher, and diabetes coach is a whirlwind of constant movement and energy. For me, this busy lifestyle, demands a proactive way to managing my diabetes. That’s where diabetes technology comes into play. My FreeStyle Libre 2 system offers the support, confidence, and convenience I need to keep moving forward in my life with diabetes.

Here are a few ways that the FreeStyle Libre 2 system has helped me navigate my many-sided life with diabetes.

Seamless transition to real-time readings

The shift from scanning my glucose levels to real-time readings1 with the FreeStyle Libre 2 system via the FreeStyle LibreLink app2 has been transformative. As someone always on the go, this upgrade has been life-changing.

Whether teaching a surf session, walking with my kids to school, or getting my groove on in a dance class, having instant access to my glucose numbers with just a glance at my phone1,2 ensures I stay on top of my diabetes without interrupting life's flow.

Gentle alarms for more awareness

The FreeStyle Libre 2 system’s alarm features3 provide just the right type of reminders about potential high or low glucose levels. These notifications heighten my awareness, so I can make adjustments and prevent hypo or hyper events, allowing me to keep going with greater confidence.

I now have less anxiety and fear related to unexpected glucose fluctuations, especially during sleep or exercise. And because life can travel at full speed, the alarm reminders3 allow me to check in with my glucose management more frequently.

Insightful reports for holistic understanding

For me, the most valuable aspect of the FreeStyle Libre 2 system is its comprehensive reporting feature. These reports provide a big picture of my glucose readings, helping me make sense of daily patterns and trends4. At certain times of the day, I tend to have slightly lower glucose levels. So, by analysing the low glucose event reports, I can pinpoint when I experience lows, empowering me to fine-tune my insulin management and dietary choices more effectively.

The estimated HbA1c report offers a snapshot of my average glucose levels, which helps me to set achievable diabetes goals and actively engage in managing my diabetes. The detailed reports and data have supported more meaningful discussions with my healthcare team5, leading to more personalised diabetes management care.

Empowerment and flexibility in life

Switching to the FreeStyle Libre 2 system has enhanced my overall diabetes management, offering a sense of freedom. The real-time readings1 and alarms3 on my phone2 have supported total awareness of my glucose levels, enabling me to embrace life's unexpected moments.

During four overseas trips since using this system, I've experienced peace of mind keeping my glucose levels in check while travelling and enjoying my holidays. It’s particularly convenient during social outings and dining with friends, having immediate access to glucose readings on my phone1 so perhaps I can order that dessert on the menu.

Ultimately, the FreeStyle Libre 2 system has granted me a bit of normalcy in a life impacted by diabetes. While a cure remains a hopeful aspiration, this technology has given me a sense of hope, offering flexibility, confidence, and the opportunity to fulfil my life with any goal I dream up.

The FreeStyle Libre 2 system doesn’t just give me real-time, minute-by-minute glucose readings on my phone1,2; it's a key to unlocking a more balanced life amidst the ongoing challenges of diabetes. It's a pretty incredible way that technology can empower individuals, making the journey with diabetes more manageable and allowing us to embrace life's joys without hesitation.
