What might cause a sensor to stop working?
By design, FreeStyle Libre sensors run safety and diagnostics checks every minute to make sure they are working optimally, and you have the accurate glucose readings you rely on for diabetes management. High rates of glucose change during periods of intense exercise, for example, could cause a temporary condition where the sensor is unable to provide a glucose reading in that moment resulting in a “sensor error” message. For the FreeStyle Libre system, simply wait the duration specified on the screen and scan again. In the rare event that the sensor detects it is not functioning as intended, for example after issues with sensor application or cases when the sensor is knocked from the skin, a “replace sensor” message will be displayed, and you will need to apply a new sensor.5,212
