What is CGM? How does it help in better glucose control?

Types of glucose monitoring devices

There are two types of glucose monitoring devices, continuous glucose monitoring also known as CGM device and blood glucose monitoring known as BGM. A BGM device consists of a glucose monitor, lancet, and a test strip. Through a BGM device, you get your current glucose levels every time you test, and it helps understand if you are maintaining normal blood sugar levels. If your blood sugar levels change after eating or exercising, you can test yourself to track the change in glucose levels.

The process of pricking your finger on a BGM device also commonly known as glucose test machine to check your glucose levels several times a day can get painful and tiring, especially if you’re having a busy day at work or home. You have to constantly excuse yourself to check your blood sugar levels throughout the day, whether you’re in the middle of meetings or a get-together.

That’s why an increasing number of people are now turning to a different way of measuring glucose levels that is pain-free. Unlike a BGM device, a CGM device does not require any finger pricking. Instead, a CGM come with a Sensor that can help a convenient, pain-free way of tracking your glucose levels, trends and patterns. Being able to track the trend in glucose levels allows more control and helps improve blood sugar levels.

What is CGM?

A CGM or continuous glucose monitoring device can help you track your current glucose levels and show the trend if your glucose levels are going up, down, or staying steady. If you are someone who needs to check your blood sugar levels multiple times a day to maintain normal glucose levels, then, FreeStyle Libre is ideal for you.

Once the FreeStyle Libre Sensor is on your upper arm, you can test your glucose or sugar level range whenever you need to, as many times a day. With FreeStyle Libre you can painlessly scan the Sensor with a Reader anytime for up to 14 days. It can give you up to 1440 readings a day.

The more frequently you check your blood glucose levels, the better idea you get of how different foods and activities affect you, which is why the information the FreeStyle Libre gives you, will help you manage your glucose or sugar levels better than other BGM devices.

By checking your blood sugar levels multiple times, you can narrow down which foods and activities cause your glucose to spike, and limit foods and activities as needed. The Reader can also store up to 90 days of data. FreeStyle Libre is proven to improve HBA1c levels, making managing glucose or sugar levels easier than other BGM devices

In our fast and rapidly changing modern world, we have the option of upgrading from traditional glucose test machines, and CGM’s are the way to go. Once you monitor your glucose or sugar levels with devices such as FreeStyle Libre, managing your glucose levels will be easier than ever.
