FAQs

Find answers to questions you might have about the FreeStyle LibreLink update

I’ve just got a message in my app but I use FreeStyle Libre sensors? What can I do?

You have two options. If you currently purchase your FreeStyle Libre sensors, you should order a FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor instead to benefit from real-time glucose readings directly to your phone, now that you have updated your FreeStyle LibreLink app.

If you get your FreeStyle Libre sensors free of charge from your doctor, there is no action to take and you can continue to scan as usual.

I have applied my FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor but I’m not getting real-time glucose readings directly to my phone. Why?

Please check you’ve updated the FreeStyle LibreLink app on your phone to version 2.10 and that you did that before applying the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor. If you applied and paired the sensor before updating the app, you will only get the real-time glucose readings when you start a new FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor. Please also check your phone’s compatibility with this new version of the app.

The minimum device and operating system requirements for the FreeStyle LibreLink 2.10 app are:

For the iOS App: iPhone 8 and later, running iOS 15.5 or higher

For the Android App: NFC-enabled smartphones, running Android 8 or higher

Please refer to the Mobile Device and OS Compatibility guide to confirm your phone and OS is compatible with version 2.10 of FreeStyle LibreLink app.

Will my existing FreeStyle Libre 2 sensors work with the updated FreeStyle LibreLink app?

Yes, your existing FreeStyle Libre 2 sensors will work with the FreeStyle LibreLink app. However, it is important to update your app to version 2.10 if you wish to receive real-time glucose readings. You will need to start a new sensor after updating the app to begin receiving real-time glucose readings.

◊ The FreeStyle LibreLink app is only compatible with certain mobile devices and operating systems. Please check our website for more information about device compatibility before using the app. Use of the FreeStyle LibreLink app may require registration with LibreView.

I also use a reader with my current FreeStyle Libre sensor. Will it work with the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensors?

If you use a reader with your sensors and would like to continue using a reader, you will not be able to get real-time glucose readings from your FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor. You will need to keep scanning as you do now. And you will need a new FreeStyle Libre 2 reader.

If I’m using the free FreeStyle Libre 2 sensors, can I get the alarms too?

Yes you can. There are three optional alarms with the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor: low glucose, high glucose and signal loss, which you can customise to suit your needs.¤

¤ Notifications will only be received when alarms are turned on and the sensor is within 20ft of the reading device. You must have override do not disturb settings enabled to receive alarms and alerts on your smartphone.
